Your Inner Script Isn't Set in Stone
Psychologist Carol Dweck is credited with introducing the world to the term "growth mindset." At a very young age, she wondered why some people achieved so much while others who were equal in many ways achieved very little.
In her bestselling book, “Mindset: The New Psychology of Success”, she discusses a powerful ability we all have: We can choose to be successful.
Throughout much of human history, it was believed that smart people could achieve more than less intelligent people. We now know that high reasoning ability and intelligence do not guarantee an easy life. History is filled with intelligent underachievers who enjoy little fulfillment.
What matters more than anything regarding success and fulfillment is the story you tell yourself.
Fortunately, you can change that inner dialogue if you don't realize your dreams. The tone of your self-talk isn't set in stone. You can adopt a growth mindset to change your inner dialogue and positively change all areas of your life.
No One Is Limited; Everyone Can Grow
A person with a fixed mindset believes their life was decided at birth. Try as they may, they can't change it. They are held down by limits that are set in stone.
A growth mindset is empowering. It tells us that growth is possible for anyone, even if they don't currently have the tools, resources, or abilities needed to create a specific result. You can achieve anything when you combine knowledge and perseverance, which is an unbeatable combination.
Studies show that developing a growth mindset is possible at any age and under any conditions. It is a simple shift to a positive inner dialogue and away from limiting beliefs.
Do You Still Believe What You Did As A Child?
You know monsters don't lurk under your bed or in your closet. Try telling that to your childhood self. That's just one example of a belief system you have changed. It's proof that you can decide to tell yourself a new story.
Start embracing positive self-talk. The story you tell yourself triggers neurological processes that shape your brain chemistry. The more you repeat positive self-talk, the more you believe it. Your actions start to lead to a reality that reflects your positive inner dialogue.
Don't let your past, environment, current circumstances, or other factors keep you from believing in yourself. If you embrace your limits, you will always be limited. Believe you can grow, give yourself the gift of positive self-talk, and you will see more positive things happen in your life.
