What comes to mind when you think about managing conflict?
With differing personalities, working styles and individual goals, workplace conflict is inevitable. Whether you have 2 or 2,000 people working under one roof, disagreements are unavoidable. However, disputes don’t always have to end badly or be viewed negatively. The best companies view conflict differently – they understand that some level of conflict is healthy and encourage “constructive conflict” to foster innovative solutions.
They also know how to manage conflict proactively from the moment it begins; making sure issues are addressed early and directly (not waiting for things to escalate and reach a boiling point). The best leaders do not shy away from conflict and understand that if managed correctly, it will lead to improvements and more cohesive relationships in the long run.

Conflict is good… Or at least not all bad.
At our upcoming Workplace Coffee Talk, in addition to the following points, we will discuss how organizations can dial down destructive conflict and make conflict a normal, natural and even positive workplace experience!
- Why taking immediate action is necessary and establishing a framework for constructive conversations.
- How to “frame” the discussion positively; attacking the issue, not the person.
- Setting ground rules for effective conflict resolution.
- Active listening – the key to success.
